WinAmp or Just bad luck?

Posted in Windows, reviews, software, thoughts by snick512 on August 14, 2008

Well… Since my new main laptop is a windows os, i figured I’d try out winamp once again. And the new Winamp (5.541) has to be the most glitchiest program i’ve ever used dealing with media players.

There’s quite a few different things that really makes me want to stop using it, or not use it. Personally I use Windows Media Player 11, because it has tons and tons of features, and hardly ever errors.

List of Bugs?

  1. It froze when all I did was select another artist from the “Artists” selection on the media library
  2. It also glitched randomly when all it was doing was just playing a music stream from AOL Music.
  3. Froze when switching off the visualization screen.
  4. After adding a few folders to the media library it did not respond for at least 5 minutes on and off. (I’m guessing it has a hard time collecting information about the tracks afterwards?)
  5. Random “Script Error” notification, that says you can “click” to continue.
  6. Uses way too much ram. It had used during all of these bugs, 100mb+
  7. Naturally laggy. I say this because, if they didn’t heavy load the GUI it wouldn’t be a problem. Or maybe it lags because it’s just overloaded in general? (It could be that it takes a long time to just load the next section as well)

Well there you have it. My experience with the new winamp. Not a very good one, and I’m very disappointed at it. It used to be good, now it’s shit. The only good thing about it that I see right now is that it has AOL Radio/Videos hooked into it.
