Expanding my Domain – Maybe you can Too!
Lately, I’ve been going around and checking out major companies, and minor companies as well, trying to see where I could place myself to obviously have a comfortable position.
So what did I do? I started signing up, and giving money. I recently donated to EditDNS for their great support on my DNS Hosting. I signed up @ Twitter (my account is snick512), uStream.tv (once again my account is snick512).
I signed up at uStream to broadcast gibberish. Also, a way to talk to people who care about whatever I do for whatever reason (I have no clue) easier. I mean come on, video and audio? How much better could it get?
I signed up @ BlogTalkRadio as well. Which is a VERY cool place. Radio at your own time. Stream other shows, check out the schedules. Maybe I will broadcast on there as well. Probably at the same time I do live broadcasts on uStream. You know, so it’s easier in the means of accessibility. THEN! I can I use the twitter account to say “what I’m doing.”
BlogTalkRadio also offers a FREE phone number for your listeners to call in and talk to you on the radio! Doesn’t stop there – They even have it to where they can talk directly from the website, and a switchboard for you to control all of this. Even play pre-recorded things! How much cooler can that get?
I also registered @ Podcast (My account is snick512 i think). I registered there because there is some cool stuff going on there! Lots of cool technology stuff that I’m interested in. I even checked out some other things. Maybe I’ll give that a shot one day. Or just record my live broadcasts and upload it there.
I also discovered an audio blog. Ping Blog. Etc. Cool stuff to have when you are as deep into blogging as I am. When I get unlazy enough, I will probably add the services.
I registered 2 new domains. 1 is private for the time being. The other one is geekdock.com. I’ve been SOO wanting to get this domain, for the obvious reasons. I only wanted it because it’s a catchy name! And for my later Geek Dock project.
Anyway, that’s it for now! I’ll post back later.
Free Domain Services?
Hm. I’ve decided to release my ways of the free domain world.
I’ve used www.uni.cc for years. They were my actual first free full DNS management domain service host. They don’t offer much but they are extremely reliable. And to be honest, I use them as a backup domain just incase I would ever need to. They really only offer service for simple site hosting, url forwarding (i think if i can remember correctly), A Hosting (IP), and NS (Nameserver) directing. That’s all you should need for that.
With that being said www.co.cc is a new one that i’ve stumbled upon that does what it says on the frontpage. I haven’t reached a limit for it yet for adding subdomains, or messing with it. Your account co.cc can hold up to 2 domains as far as I know. Maybe more? I haven’t tried.
I’ve used co.cc in test with my other post “Windows Live Domain Services” which it works. I haven’t did ‘that’ much testing with it, but I do know it works.
I use my uni.cc (snick.uni.cc) for my gmail handling. I point the MX’s on snick.uni.cc to Google mail servers.
But before I get into that.. to do all this with uni.cc (or even co.cc)?
Go to www.editdns.net and get yourself a free account. Point your uni.cc (or co.cc) account to their NS’s (it will say in the ED panel). After doing so, give them at least 72 hours to kick in. When it’s working.. you then have control to add lots of subdomains, and have several different mail servers working all the time, and even have backup DNS’s. Duh.. now you can add many NS’s for websites.
Note: You can always put 1 NS from one company in the first slot, and a 2nd NS in the 2nd slot to make a backup DNs. Just remember to have them pointed correctly
Having a uni.cc account only has one drawback. And that’s you have to include the uni.cc logo on the first domain page, and first page of a (if any) subdomain. I haven’t had trouble with that, however it’s nice to do so, after all they are helping you out by offering you free service.
Co.cc.. I’m not sure if they prefer you to have any Ad’s. I haven’t paid that much attention.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
